Slob, N., Catal, C., & Kassahun, A. (2020). Application of machine learning to improve dairy farm management: A systematic literature review. Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 105237. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.prevetmed.2020.105237

This systematic review analyzed 427 papers on machine learning applications in dairy farm management, with 38 primary studies examined in detail. Disease detection was the focus in 55% of the studies, while milk yield and quality prediction accounted for 26% and 19%, respectively. Mastitis prediction was the most common dependent variable, with artificial neural network-based and decision tree-based algorithms performing best across various tasks. Key challenges identified included feature selection, unbalanced data, and overfitting.
