Slob N, Catal C, Kassahun A. Application of machine learning to improve dairy farm management: A systematic literature review. Prev Vet Med. 2021;187:105237.
This systematic literature review (SLR) analyzed 427 papers on the application of machine learning in dairy farm management, focusing on 38 primary studies. Over half of the papers (55%) addressed disease detection, with other topics including milk production and milk quality. Seventy-one independent variables were identified, primarily related to milking parameters and milk properties. The most frequently used machine learning algorithms were decision tree-based, followed by artificial neural networks, with challenges mainly involving feature selection, unbalanced data, and overfitting.
